Modify Y axis of Step Graph to be categorical labels

I have a step graph that shows categorical data over time. For example, if you were to categorize items in our solar system as planet, non planet, or undiscovered… You would see a line over time of Pluto being undiscovered, it then bumps up to non-planet, then bumps up again to planet, then back down to non-planet. X-axis would be a series of dates. This is just an easily understandable example, I am not actually making a graph of planets.

How do I modify the labels of the Y-Axis in a step graph to be categorical?

Labels over axis y are not possible as of now. However, you can achieve it using labelFormatter as shown in this JSFiddle.
